Rosewater has a secret ingredient!

Liz Belford

There’s a brand-new ingredient making waves in the skincare industry these days, and it’s perhaps not one that many would expect. As our blog readers may remember from a recent post, Rosewater Spa of Oakville is proud to use products by Seaflora in select spa services; we also carry several of its products in our boutique. The Canadian brand is devoted to harvesting high-quality seaweed from the Salish Sea in British Columbia, infusing skincare products with the marine algae and pioneering a method of keeping it biologically active. This nutrient-rich ingredient has gained traction for its health benefits in recent years, with Seaflora founder Diane Bernard (known internationally as the “Seaweed Lady”) leading the way.

The brand-new ingredient that has everyone talking these days, however, isn’t seaweed –– though it is being used in Seaflora’s innovative products. The company now offers a small number of products in which that rich, raw seaweed is working in tandem with the latest breakthrough in the industry: Cannabidiol, more commonly known as CBD.

The recent legalization of cannabis in Canada has made room for new, cutting-edge products that make use of the flowering plant’s numerous health benefits. According to Seaflora, Cannabidiol is known to regulate over 165 genes found in the skin. Applying it directly to the epidermis is the fastest and most effective way to access the skin’s CB2 receptors. This cooperates beautifully with the fatty acids in seaweed, which build the delivery through the dermal layers.

Seaflora brilliantly looked at the advantages of pairing these two powerful ingredients and infused its most popular product, the Seaweed Body Gel, with 2.5mg of CBD per mL. Velvety in texture, the new Healthy Healing Gel is perfect for those with aches, pains, and inflammation. It quickly absorbs into the skin, delivering a powerful cocktail of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. It even works to reduce scarring and skin irritations while hydrating the skin.

Perhaps the question on your mind at this point is: will this product make me high? The firm answer is: no, it will not. The CBD used in Seaflora products is THC-free, making it a safe and smart choice for those who work in the military, police officers, first responders, or those in professions that require regular drug testing.

Seaflora is a company of uncompromising integrity when it comes to sourcing its ingredients, and its approach to CBD is no exception. The Healthy Healing Gel contains a pure CBD isolate derived from industrial hemp oil, which has been sourced from certified North American hemp farms. It is non-GMO, pesticide-free, and completely free of heavy metals and solvents.

The importance of using organic hemp can’t be overstated. Like sunflowers, hemp is a planet detoxification plant, meaning it is capable of absorbing radioactive materials and toxins from the soil, a useful tool for farmers looking to reinvigorate soil between seasons. If hemp has not been harvested organically, it will almost certainly carry contaminants –– which, needless to say, is not something we should be ingesting or rubbing on our skin!

Seaflora’s Healthy Healing Gel is much more than just a moisturizer and can be used from head to toe to treat undereye circles, rashes, bug bites, sunburns, cellulite reduction, acne, minor wounds, cold sores, and more. It’s also a useful aftercare tool for dermatology procedures like micro-needling and microdermabrasion. It can even help to treat the skin after a new tattoo!

To purchase Healthy Healing Gel, visit our boutique at 156 Church Street, Oakville.

I don’t know if it’s just me. Shortly after Thanksgiving I began to sense a mild vibration around me. At first, I’m never certain what it’s about but then it all comes flooding back…it’s time to start thinking about finding the perfect Christmas gift for my family and friends. On the one hand, it’s kind of fun. On the other hand, it becomes ever more challenging to find the solution that’s just right for everyone on the list. I am the kind of person who takes the time to think about what might be perfect and completely personal. And, now that most of the people on my docket have all of the stuff they’ll ever need (and more) my creative skills and imagination must come into play!

Among the many challenges extended isolation had during COVID was the strain placed on couples cooped up for months on end. Regardless of the strength of a relationship enforced togetherness can create stress. This has left couples searching for a way to rekindle the celebration of being with one another. Couples are missing “experiences”, they are missing travel time together, missing fun in the sun on a tropical beach, missing time abroad … missing sharing new experiences together as a couple. Romantic time together and dates! Couples who present a “united front” can move through tough times by reframing problems as obstacles to tackle together.* One such couple is Vicki and George Fiddler who for 15 years have been loyal patrons of the Rosewater Spa. Their united front has been a commitment to the benefits and enjoyment of couples massage.

I have a favour to ask of you. It’s a safe assumption that each of you knows someone who has been touched by cancer. While remarkable progress has been made in prevention and treatment, cancer continues to infiltrate the lives of too many women - young and old. When I created Rosewater Spa I made a commitment to myself that this business would always give back to the community and among the causes I support cancer is one of the areas where we can make a real difference in the lives of women undergoing radiation and chemotherapy. I know so many women, who ring the bell at the conclusion of their treatment and are then faced with an expectation from others that life now will return to ‘normal’. I also know from so many women that this just isn’t so. Most of them are advised that recovering from radiation and/or chemotherapy will require up to 12 months and even then there can be lingering effects.
